6A Homework 1
Homework 1 for quiz 1 on 1/15/03
Solve the following problems from the U Oregon website and compare with the solutions that are also given there:
The fastest man in the world,
Average velocity and distance,
Comparing average velocity over time and distance,
Melon Bombing,
Finding Velocity and Acceleration from a Displacement Plot,
Constant Acceleration in a Car,
Jumping in a Falling Elevator,
A Car's "0 to 60" time,
A ball by a window,
Finally:
Speed has dimensions [L]/[T] (length over time). Acceleration has dimensions [L]/[T]2. Shortly we'll calculate the acceleration when a body is rotated in a circle of radius R at a constant speed of V. But you can use dimensional analysis (see dimesional analysis section of web book), to calculate the acceleration in terms of V and R up to a multiplicative prefactor.
