Homework for Friday, Dec 11 . (due on Friday).
how about problems: 8-3, 8-10, 8-26
8-35 is a challenging and optional problem that some of you may wish to try...
In addition, please find the normal modes and frequencies for the symmetric triangle
oscillator (described in class on Dec 4).
If you do a really nice job on this problem please give me (Zack) a copy (in addition to the one
you hand in with your HW). A clear presentation with discussion of key aspects is appreciated.
Also, for either the potential U=kr^2 or U=kr^7,
determine the shapes of orbits that are nearly circular by looking at the frequency
of small oscillations away from a circ orbit...(and its relation to the circ. orbit frequency).
Why are these cases special. Are they similar to -k/r=U ?
If you do a really nice job on this problem please give me (Zack) a copy (in addition to the one
you hand in with your HW). Draw nice pictures...
